CLARENDON HILLS, IL – A Clarendon Hills resident interrupted a house burglary early in the morning Sunday, police said.

The suspect ran away when confronted, police said. No description of the suspect was given.

The burglary happened in the 10 block of Norfolk Avenue.

Clarendon Hills police said they responded to the call from the resident and determined there was no immediate threat to the public.

The police said they do not typically comment on ongoing investigations, unless there is a substantiated threat to the public.

In this case, though, the village received several inquiries about the incident, so it released a statement.

"Clarendon Hills, like all communities, is experiencing incidents of property theft, usually related to vehicles," the statement said. "In most incidents, we find that vehicles, homes, or buildings have been left unlocked. This makes it easier for offenders to commit crimes. We continue to urge our residents and businesses to properly secure your property."
