Cardboard Boat Regatta Returns To Clarendon Hills

CLARENDON HILLS, IL — The Fourth Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta makes a return to Clarendon Hills, with the event being held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5 at Lions Park Pool. According to a release from the Clarendon Hills Park District, there is a $20 fee for each vessel competing in the race. Families should pre-register for the event on or before Aug. 1.

According to the release, this activity features homemade boats created using only cardboard and duct tape.The vessels are then tested in a timed, obstacle course race in the lap lane of the Lions Park Pool. Prizes are awarded in several categories including "Fastest Vessel" and "People's Choice." All sailors will be treated to a continental breakfast poolside. While parental help is encouraged in the construction of boats used in the race, only children, tweens and teens will be allowed to navigate vessels during the actual competition.
