Chicago Cop Scam, Damage: Hinsdale Police

A person posing as a Chicago officer called a Hinsdale resident about an arrest warrant, according to a report.

HINSDALE, IL – In the last few days, Hinsdale police handled cases involving a scam, damage to a religious group's building, exploitation of an elderly person, DUI, theft and a broken window. Here is information from the latest Hinsdale police reports:

Scam

  • On July 3, a suspect posing as a Chicago police officer called a resident in the 700 block of Phillippa Street and instructed him to make a $1,000 online bank transaction for an arrest warrant that was later discovered to be fictitious.

  • An air conditioning unit and a metal downspout were damaged between July 1 and July 3 at the Institute in Basic Life Principles, 707 W. Ogden Ave. The case is pending. The institute is a religious organization.

Exploitation of an elderly person

  • Police have identified a suspect that made fraudulent charges on a person's credit card between June 1 and June 3 in the 10 block of East Third Street. The case was labeled financial exploitation of an elderly person.

DUI

  • Richard Funk, 29, of Montgomery, was arrested about 9:30 p.m. July 3 at Ogden Avenue and Monroe Street on charges of DUI, improper lane use, speeding and expired registration. He refused testing to determine his blood-alcohol content. He was released and given a date to appear in court.

Broken window

  • Someone broke a window on the back of a house between June 24 and July 5 in the 200 block of Elmwood Place. No signs of entry could be found. Nothing was reported missing. The case is pending.

Theft

  • Two bicycles valued at $700 were stolen from the parkway between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Friday in the 500 block of North Mills Street.
