Students in the Clarendon Hills Middle School drama troupe recently performed the musical “Jungle Book Kids” for students at Monroe School, Prospect School and Walker School. CHMS teacher Jerra Haggar and Cyndy Soumar of Theater of Western Springs directed the production, which included 19 students in Grades 7 and 8. The troupe met once per week from September through December to prepare for the performance.
Haggar notes, “Students had the chance to develop their singing and acting skills in a small group setting and bond as a performing unit.” Performances included an evening presentation for families and friends, but Haggar says the highlight for students was the experience of performing at the elementary schools. “The elementary students were captivated by the story, and hopefully it will spark an interest in the performance opportunities that await them at the middle school.”
