Coronavirus: 72 Cases In Hinsdale And Clarendon Hills

The number of local cases is far greater than it was at the beginning of April, statistics show.

HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills had 72 confirmed cases of the coronavirus as of Sunday — 47 in Hinsdale and 25 in Clarendon Hills. The total is about 3 1/2 times the April 1 number, when it was as many as 20.

On April 1, the DuPage County Health Department reported eight cases each in Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills. At the time, Cook County reported one to four cases in the Cook portion of Hinsdale.

At the current levels, Hinsdale has 2.7 cases per thousand and Clarendon Hills 2.8. That compares with 1.2 per thousand in Western Springs, 2 in La Grange Park, 3.8 in Riverside and 4.4 in La Grange. In DuPage County as a whole, the rate is 2.7 cases per thousand.

The south suburbs, meanwhile, are seeing considerably higher rates. Park Forest, for example, has 13.9 cases per thousand people.

At last week's Hinsdale Village Board meeting, Village President Tom Cauley noted a confirmed case of the coronavirus at ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home.

"Having the virus in a nursing home is particularly problematic. The village has been in contact with the owner of ManorCare, and the fire department is working with them to try to make the situation as best as it can be," Cauley said.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 43,903. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 1,933 Illinois residents.

Nationally, nearly 940,000 have caught the virus, and more than 53,000 have died from it, as of Sunday morning, thousands more than less than 24 hours earlier.
