D-86 Students Returning To School After Negative COVID-19 Test

Test for student who may have been exposed to coronavirus came back negative.

DARIEN, IL — Class will be back in session Friday at Hinsdale South and Central high schools, District 86 announced Thursday afternoon. That was after a test for a South student who may have been exposed to coronavirus came back negative. Students were out of school Thursday awaiting the outcome of the test.

Meanwhile, District 86 has canceled all academic field trips and all in-state and out-of-state trips and events. The district said it is reviewing the short- and long-term plans for athletics and activities.

The district has created a form that it is hoping families will consider using to share details about any future trips or plans. While completion of the form is voluntary, having this information will help inform the district on its response to the possible spread of the virus, the district said.

"We will continue to closely monitor the updates about the virus that are being issued by local, state, national and international health organizations," the district said in a statement.

Late in the afternoon Wednesday, District 181, which serves elementary and middle school students in Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills, announced it was canceling extracurricular events for the time being because of the virus. It said it would re-evaluate its decision next Thursday. District 181 said it had no confirmed coronavirus cases among students and staff.

Elmhurst School District 205 has suspended all after-school activities until further notice.
