District 181 Updates Phone System; Notice: New District 181 Phone Numbers As Of December 26

Community Consolidated School District 181 is implementing a new phone system for improved school safety, greater reliability, stronger consistency between schools and more convenience for staff and the community. Highlights of the new system include:

• Consistency in the new phone numbers, making them easier to remember on a daily basis and in the event of a crisis.
• Direct dialing to office staff and direct dialing to teacher voicemail during the school day, rather than calling a main number and entering an extension, enabling callers to connect with District staff more quickly.
• The ability to transfer calls between schools, allowing staff to transfer a caller who rings the wrong building or who has a second school to call, rather than directing the caller to hang up and dial another number.
• Consistency in phone equipment, strengthening equity between the buildings.
• Enhanced security functionality, allowing staff to rapidly communicate in the event of an emergency.

As of December 26, all phone numbers within the District will be new, including the school main offices and staff extensions. Fax machine numbers are the only numbers that have not changed, says Director of Communications Bridget McGuiggan. “To help ensure a smooth transition during this change, the current main school numbers will still work through the remainder of the school year,” McGuiggan explains, “but current extensions will no longer be valid.” The District website (www.d181.org) will be updated with the new phone numbers in time for the start of school following the winter break. 

McGuiggan shares that the District thanks the community for their patience and support during this transition and welcomes any questions or feedback about the phone changes.
