District 86 Accepting Applications for Board of Education Vacancy

The board's goal/plan is to identify, appoint and seat a new member by its regular action meeting on Dec. 21.

The District 86 Board of Education currently has a vacancy that resulted from the resignation of Kay Gallo on Oct. 26. Per the Illinois School Code, this vacancy must be filled no more than 60 days after it occurred. Based on this requirement, the board’s goal/plan is to identify, appoint and seat a new member by its regular action meeting on Dec. 21.

Since the vacancy occurred with more than 868 days remaining in member Gallo's term, the person who is selected for this position will serve from the date of their appointment until the date the new board is sworn in and seated following the consolidated election on April 1, 2025. During that election, voters will choose the individual who will serve the remainder of member Gallo's term (expires in April 2027).

Anyone who would like to be considered for the open position on the board must submit their application by Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. The application form, which includes information about the search process and candidate qualifications, can be accessed by visiting https://forms.gle/Uxrmt3w6Uwy9eTPC6.
