Just before the Community Consolidated School District 181 winter break, Elm School second graders enjoyed a sampling of various cultures’ holiday celebrations. Parent volunteers and staff members led stations that each focused on a different set of traditions, including Chinese New Year, Ramadan, Hanukkah, Christmas, and Diwali, as well as special celebrations from Italy, Mexico and Germany. Each station included a brief background on the holiday along with an activity.
Elm School Principal Jeana Considine notes, "We are so proud to celebrate our diversity. We have over 31 different languages spoken by the families of Elm School. A very special part of being a second grader is to have the opportunity to learn about the special traditions that their classmates celebrate. It is a treasured memory for all of the children as well as the parents that donate their time. We are so proud of how our little school embraces the things that make us so special."
