Elm School Hosts World Almanac Challenge

Elm School Media Resource Center Director Jill Berry recently led 4th grade students in a research-based competition - World Almania for Kids. Teams of students strived to be the first to answer questions correctly using The World Almanac for Kids 2014. Using their research skills to identify keywords, use the index, and decipher text tables and graphs, students masterfully demonstrated their ability - not to know the answer, but to find the answer.

“Research is a process,” Berry said. “The World Almania game presents an engaging way for students to determine what is being asked, develop a strategy to get to the right page, and then read carefully to find the answer. Students use the text elements in the almanac to help them find the answers. This is a skill the students also use when doing research online.”
