Flood Money Flowing To Hinsdale Residents: Village

HINSDALE, IL — No flooding is likely this time of year. Everything's frozen.

But some residents in northeast Hinsdale are waiting for payments from an Illinois Tollway contractor blamed for flooding last June.

At Tuesday's Village Board meeting, Village President Tom Cauley asked for an update on Chicago-based Walsh Construction's reimbursements to residents.

In response, Assistant Village Manager Brad Bloom said the company is three-quarters of the way either negotiating or finalizing payments with residents.

"I think a lot of people already have their check. Even with the holidays, they made some significant progress," Bloom said.

The flooding occurred June 26, which the village immediately blamed on the Illinois Tollway's Interstate 294 project. As documents showed, residents were given the runaround for months on how to get compensated.

At a Village Board meeting in early October, Cauley called for the Illinois Tollway to take action to ensure residents' claims were paid. A tollway official at the meeting expressed disappointment in Walsh.

Soon after, the village started reporting progress on the company's handling of the claims. Walsh has not returned messages for comment.
