Hinsdale Airbnb Ban On Table Later This Month
Renters and neighbors disagree over the length of the short-term rental ban.

HINSDALE, IL – It's been a couple of months since a Hinsdale committee recommended a controversial measure to ban Airbnbs and other rentals that are for less than three months.
On July 16, the Village Board is set to review the Plan Commission's recommendation. A village official emailed this information earlier this week to a number of people with a stake in the issue.
Village President Tom Cauley recommended enacting a six-month ban, though some plan commissioners said that was too long.

Airbnb landlords urged the village to go with one month, the threshold for other DuPage County towns.
But neighbors of Airbnbs contended they endure noise and other issues with short-term renters. They said they are put at risk because they have no idea who is living next door.

In May, the village signaled that it was enforcing a one-month ban already, although it is unclear where the village gets its authority to do so.
In 2023, Darien banned short-term rentals that were less than 30 days. But there were no reports that the city tried to enforce a ban before the code changed.
The Hinsdale Village Board meets at 7 p.m. July 16 at Village Hall, 19 E. Chicago Ave.
