Hinsdale Central Sees Surge In Virus Cases: Report
South reports far fewer cases, increasing by only one in a week.

HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale Central High School saw a big increase in coronavirus cases in the last week, according to the latest report.
As of Friday, the school reported 55 cases among Central students, making up about 2 percent of the student body. A week earlier, the school had seven cases.
South, which is half Central's size, recorded six coronavirus cases as of Friday, about half a percent of students. That was up one from a week earlier.

For the last three months, both schools had seen only a handful of cases at a time. The last surge was in January.
As of Friday, 18 employees in Hinsdale High School District 86 had tested positive for the coronavirus. That was up from five a week earlier.

In Elmhurst, York High School's number of students with the coronavirus jumped to 47 as of Friday, from 25 a week earlier.
By contrast, Lyons Township High School experienced a decline of five cases among students in the last week, to 28.
According to District 86, 59 percent of South students and 82 percent of Central students are fully vaccinated.
