Hinsdale D86, Union Strike Tentative Deal: District
The pact could be approved before a new board majority takes office.

HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale High School District 86 announced Friday it has struck a tentative deal with its teachers union.
But the district declined to provide details such as pay.
The union, the Hinsdale High School Teachers Association, is expected to vote on the proposed agreement in a few weeks.

If the union approves it, then the school board is expected to vote on it in March at the earliest.
This could be the last major piece of business for the board to complete before the April 4 election. With a new board majority likely to take office after that, the political environment is uncertain.

In its statement Friday, the district said it has had a "positive and highly productive" dialogue with the union.
The district said the agreement would honor the hard work and dedication of teachers and enable the district to advance its mission.
The district said it would keep residents updated. The current contract expires June 30.
Asked for details on the agreement, district spokesman Chris Jasculca said in an email, "Specific details about the agreement will be provided after it has been ratified by the HHSTA and approved by the board."
This secrecy is not unusual in Illinois. While other agreements are disclosed before votes, school boards typically keep union contracts under wraps until they're approved.
