Hinsdale District 181 Settles With Contractor
The company sued the district, alleging it did not get paid for all of its work.
HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale School District 181 last week settled a 3-year-old dispute with a contractor that was hired to do more than $500,000 in work.
At a meeting, the school board approved a settlement with New Lenox-based Kee Construction, which sued the district two years ago.
In 2020, the district approved a $514,000 contract for Kee.

But a few months later, the parties disagreed over certain work. Kee said the district's architect failed to correct faulty specifications and provide change orders for extra work.
The district paid the company $431,000. As the disagreement continued, the district declared Kee in default and terminated the contract. It also barred Kee from returning to do any more work.

The company sued for the remaining $83,000 in DuPage County Court.
Under the settlement, the district must pay Kee $60,000 and a subcontractor $4,000. Neither side is admitting liability.
Patch obtained the settlement through a public records request.
The settlement includes a confidentiality clause, but makes exceptions for records requests. The agreement prohibits either party from disparaging the other.
