Hinsdale Middle School Threat 'Not Substantiated'

Off-duty officers will be at the school through the end of the week to make sure students feel safe, the principal said.

HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale Middle School said Wednesday local police investigated a threat and found no immediate or ongoing issue existed.

A student reported another student made a threat, but officers found the allegation was "not substantiated," school district spokesman Jeffrey Alstadt said in an interview Thursday.

He said the school aims to get information to parents.

The middle school's principal, Cory Burke, wrote a letter to parents Wednesday saying he takes such incidents seriously as a parent of four children.

"We have a threat assessment team at the school that works with students in this sort of situation," Burke said. "District and building administration collaborate and work through the comprehensive safety process and protocols whenever a threat is reported."

Off-duty police officers will be sent to the school through the end of the week to ensure students have a sense of safety, the principal said.

Burke said the school would take appropriate disciplinary measures, but could not share the details because of student confidentiality.

"We'll continue to remind our students that some comments will always result in serious consequences and the importance of sharing the concerning things they may hear at school," Burke said.
