Hinsdale Panel To Take Up Airbnbs Again
Residents have sharp differences on a ban. A second vote on such an issue is standard procedure for the Plan Commission.

HINSDALE, IL – The Hinsdale Plan Commission on Wednesday plans to take a second vote on the issue of banning short-term rentals such as Airbnbs and VRBOs.
Residents have sharp differences over the proposal.
At its March 13 meeting, the commission unanimously reached a compromise on prohibiting rentals that are less than three months.

This was less than the six months that Village President Tom Cauley recommended enacting.
In an email to Patch on Monday, the commission's chairman, Steve Cashman, said it's standard procedure for a second vote on such an issue. The matter will next go to the Village Board, he said.

Bethany Salmon, the village's planner, called the commission's planned vote a "procedural step."
"It is not out of the ordinary and is typical for this case type," she said in an email. "We still haven’t scheduled the case to be reviewed by the Board yet as we are working behind the scenes to get the item prepared for a future meeting. I anticipate this could be brought to a First Reading on May 21 or June 11, but this is subject to change."
The commission's decision in March followed more than an hour of public comments.
Airbnb landlords urged the village to go with one month, the threshold for other DuPage County towns.
But neighbors of Airbnbs contended they endure noise and other issues with short-term renters. They said they are put at risk because they have no idea who is living next door.
The commission meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Village Hall, 19 Chicago Ave.
