Hinsdale Settles Age Discrimination Lawsuit

Retired firefighter says he was the victim of bias in his effort to get a promotion.

HINSDALE, IL — A retired Hinsdale firefighter settled an age discrimination lawsuit in April that he filed in 2018 against the village.

Under the terms of the settlement, firefighter Doug Niemeyer received $7,500 in return for dropping his lawsuit. That amount includes Niemeyer's attorney fees and costs, according to the agreement.

The settlement states that the village denies all the allegations in Niemeyer's lawsuit. It also says both sides settled to avoid the uncertainty and costs of litigation.

In his lawsuit, Niemeyer, who was 55 when he filed the litigation, claimed he was the victim of age discrimination in his effort to get a promotion. Patch published details about the lawsuit in February.
