Hinsdale Students Perform Far Above Average

Low-income rates appear to have a connection to outcomes in area schools.

HINSDALE, IL – Historically, schools with few low-income students perform better on standardized tests.

Hinsdale is no exception. Just 2 percent of Hinsdale District 181's students were considered low-income in 2022.

Last year, 72 percent of the district's students met standards on the Illinois Assessment of Readiness in English language arts, according to the Illinois Report Card website. In math, 71 percent of students reached the state benchmark.

Among area districts, only Western Springs 101, where no students were considered low-income, scored in the same neighborhood. There, 70 percent and 68 percent of students met standards in English language arts and math, respectively.

On the other end, Burr Ridge 180, where nearly 90 percent of students are low-income, 16 percent met standards in English language arts and math.

Statewide, 30 percent of students met standards in English language arts and 26 percent in math. Nearly half of students in Illinois come from low-income families.
