Hinsdale Suspects Speed Away From Police: Report

In one case, an officer on patrol sees a car burglary taking place, police say.

HINSDALE, IL — In one instance in the last week, Hinsdale police said they caught suspects in the act of committing a crime. In another, they got to the scene of a crime shortly afterward.

About 1 a.m. Thursday, an officer on patrol saw a car burglary taking place in the 100 block of East Fifth Street, according to a police Facebook post. Then the officer chased the suspects, but ended the pursuit because of the speed of the driver, police said. The stolen vehicle, last seen traveling south on Interstate 294, was a silver Range Rover.

About 4:30 a.m. Monday, officers responded to Colonial Gardens apartments, 5500 S. Madison St., for a catalytic converter theft. Officers were able to find the suspects' vehicle nearby and attempted to make a traffic stop. The suspects sped away, police said.

Officers ended the pursuit at Route 83 and 63rd Street because of excessive speed, police said. The car was determined to have been stolen in Chicago, according to police. The metals in catalytic converters have been become a lot more valuable.
