Hinsdale Tennis Players Participate In USTA Championship
Two Hinsdale tennis players recently participated in the USTA/Midwest Section Closed Junior Championship.

HINSDALE, IL — Two Hinsdale tennis players recently participated in the USTA/Midwest Section Closed Junior Championship. According to a release from USTA Midwest, the winners automatically qualify for the USTA National Championships.
Kathryn Treiber of Hinsdale and Elisabeth Jones of Michigan won in the Girls' 14 Doubles against Hayley Hirsch and Sanjana Reddy of Ohio. Another Hinsdale tennis player, Daniel Schmelka, participated in the Boys' 14 and under Singles finals, but was defeated by Nishesh Basavareddy of Indiana.
According to the release, the junior tournament ended June 29 with the final matches in boys and girls singles. Over 1,000 players from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin competed in the event. The tournament includes four age groups and players must earn the right to play or be endorsed by their respective USTA Districts.

According to the release, winners from the USTA/Midwest Section Closed Junior Championship are automatically included in the section quota for the USTA Boys’ and Girls’ 12, 14, 16 and 18 National Championships this August. Other top finishers in each division will be included in the section quota provided they meet the designated tournament requirements.
