Job Satisfaction Up In Hinsdale D86: Survey

Never mind school board kerfuffles, teachers report more happiness on the job.

HINSDALE, IL – School board controversies over the last couple of years appear not to have affected job satisfaction in Hinsdale High School District 86.

In an April survey, 56 percent of teachers indicated they were "extremely" or "quite" satisfied with their jobs, a 14-percentage-point increase from a year earlier.

Another 33 percent described themselves as "somewhat satisfied."

"Those are big challenges in front of us," Cheryl Moore, assistant superintendent of human resources, told the school board last week.

Besides retirements, the district has shown stability in retaining teachers, she said.

The district conducted the recent survey through Panorama Education, a contractor that does business with districts across the country.
