Justice Man Arrested for Burglary that Prompted Shelter in Place at Elm School

Keorkunium was arrested Aug. 26 in the 1700 block of 55th Street in Western Springs.

Burr Ridge police arrested Tony Keorkunian, 46 of Justice, after an Aug. 26 manhunt involving units from five agencies and a K-9 officer.

Keorkunian is charged with motor vehicle theft criminal damage to property, theft and driving while license revoked, according to Burr Ridge police.

Officers responded around 10:20 a.m. Aug. 26 to a report of an attempted home burglary on 15th Street. A man had reportedly tried to enter the home through a ground floor window, then ran away westbound toward Madison Street.

Elm School was asked to shelter in place. Burr Ridge, Hinsdale, Indian Head Park, Clarendon Hills and Willowbrook police were involved in the search, along with a K-9 officer from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police.

While officers searched the area, a landscaping crew in the 6000 block of Grant Street reported a work truck was stolen, police reported. The car thief’s description matched the attempted burglar, and the search area was expanded.

Keorkunium was arrested in the 1700 block of 55th Street in Western Springs, and the stolen work truck was found nearby.

His bond has been set at $15,000, according to the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office.
