HINSDALE, IL – A Hinsdale man bothered employees at three local restaurants late last month, uttering racial slurs at one of them, police said.

Richard Martinez, 33, who lives in the 600 block of The Lane, was charged with disorderly conduct.

Patch obtained the full police report.

In La Grange, Martinez was arrested last year on charges of assault, resisting an officer and disorderly conduct. He also was said to have made racial slurs there.

About 2:30 p.m. April 28, an officer was called about Martinez causing problems at Il Poggiolo Ristorante, 8 E. First Street, according to the police report. The officer, who knew what Martinez looked like, found him walking in the middle of the street.

The officer asked Martinez what happened. He made some obscure remarks, then used the N-word and hissed at the officer several times, police said.

The officer talked with employees in Il Poggiolo. One employee was shaken up, saying he told Martinez the restaurant was closed.

According to the report, Martinez replied, "(N-word), what did you say?"

The 63-year-old employee asked Martinez to leave, but Martinez stayed and called the employee the same racial slur repeatedly, police said.

The employee said he would call the police, to which Martinez said, "Bring them on," the report said.

Wild Ginger, 44 S. Washington St., also reported that Martinez had just been there. The owner said Martinez walked in and just stared at her, police said. She said she thought he was drunk.

The owner gave Martinez a small amount of soup, and he said he had to leave for the train. He came back minutes later, saying he had missed it.

She asked Martinez whether he was fine. He responded by asking whether she would be there all night, which alarmed her, police said.

At Egg Harbor Cafe, 29 E. First St., a 20-year-old employee told police the restaurant had just closed, but she left the door unlocked. When Martinez walked in, she greeted him. He did not respond, but stared at her, police said.

Martinez sat on a barstool close to where she was working, police said. According to the report, she told him Egg Harbor was closed, to which he responded, "Are you sure about that?"

Martinez asked the woman whether she spoke Spanish. Trying to be nice, she said she spoke both English and Spanish. She told police he began speaking gibberish. He left without any problems. She then locked all the doors.

After Martinez was taken into custody, police called Martinez's brother. The brother said Martinez's mother would pick him up.

Martinez was charged and then released.
