Monroe School student James Barrett has been selected by Artsonia as an Artist of the Week. Artsonia is an online gallery of student artwork and with over 20,000,000 pieces to view, is the largest student art museum in the world. Art teacher Theresa McGee explains that for the site’s Artist of the Week, individuals from all over the world participate in four days of online voting between 12 pieces that are randomly select from among the thousands that are submitted that week. The 4th grader’s artwork was voted the winner for his age group, 4th - 6th grade. McGee notes, “James’ artwork was created using the iPad with the Brushes app and integrated with our simple machine podcasting unit.” The colorful image features factory-inspired designs, including cogs and a conveyor belt, a project that McGee describes as a visualization from his mind of an invention that would make the world a better place.
For his success, Barrett was awarded a plaque featuring his artwork and also received a $50 gift card to Blick Art Supplies.
