CLARENDON HILLS, IL – Clarendon Hills has unveiled the rules it is considering to counter any ideas of sending migrants by bus to its jurisdiction.

Over the holiday weekend, the Village Board scheduled a special meeting for Wednesday to consider enacting bus regulations. The meeting was prompted by the reported drop-off of migrants in Hinsdale and Westmont.

Under the rules, the village would bar the unscheduled drop-off of bus passengers in town. Any bus operator would be required to apply to the village at least five days before the proposed drop-off of passengers.

The police chief would have four days to inform the applicant that the request is approved, unless the application contains materially false information.

Under the regulations, the information must include a detailed plan for how the disembarking passengers would be cared for, housed and fed.

The rules would also require the full name of every passenger, plus copies of their identifications to the extent that they exist.

The chief would hold the power to deny any application that has failed to ensure the care, housing, transportation and feeding of any passengers.

Any violations of the ordinance would amount to $750 a passenger.

Chicago has passed an ordinance to punish bus companies carrying migrants if they don't follow the city's new restrictions. That includes the seizure of buses.

The rules have caused Texas, which hires the bus firms, to send the buses to the suburbs, prompting some of them to enact new regulations. Those towns include Aurora, Tinley Park and University Park.
