Redd Herring Changes Owners, Will Become Talley's Kitchen + Bar

The Clarendon Hills restaurant will briefly close in early June and reopen with a new look and menu.

in Clarendon Hills will change owners, name, and menu next month, when Roger Herring will turn the keys over to the restaurant's current general manager, Krista Talley.

Talley’s Kitchen + Bar will occupy 31 S. Prospect Ave. beginning June 7, Talley said Thursday. It will remain Redd Herring until June 3.

“It’s hopefully going to be a smooth transition for the restaurant,” Talley said.

director of community development Mike Brown confirmed the village is aware of the ownership change.

Talley, 35, said Herring is selling the restaurant so he can focus more on his Chicago restaurant, Socca. She said Herring was aware that Talley, an Arizona native, had wanted to own her own restaurant since she took over as general manager six months ago.

Talley said the new restaurant will still feature an American menu, but it will contain more fresh ingredients.

“It will be a healthier approach to American comfort food,” she said.

There will be more small-plate appetizers and the bar will be emphasized more, Talley said. During the four-day hiatus in early June, Talley plans to “spruce up” the interior and give the space a different feel.

Redd Herring loyalists, fear not: the new menu will keep several popular items, including the short rib grilled cheese, panko crusted chicken, and crispy green beans.

“I wouldn’t think about touching those,” Talley said.

The cotton-candy machine for kids isn’t going anywhere, either. In fact, one of Talley’s goals is to make the restaurant “approachable” and family-friendly. She aims to accomplish that by creating “craveable” food that locals won’t forget about.

“I want people to come once or twice a week,” Talley said.

New hours haven’t been finalized yet, the new owner said, but she hopes to bring back Sunday brunch.

Redd Herring opened in Clarendon Hills in late 2010. Brown said in an email that Talley will need to update the business and liquor licenses to reflect the restaurant's new ownership and name.
