Sommerkamp Announces Candidacy for Illinois State Representative District 47

Oakbrook, Illinois August 7, 2017 Anne Sommerkamp (D) of Downers Grove announces her
candidacy for Illinois State Representative in District 47 on Monday, August 21, 2017 at 6:30
p.m. at the Peabody Estate in the Mayslake Forest Preserve.
Sommerkamp will kick off her campaign with a statement about her outlook for the future of
Illinois. She has been listening to voters on their doorsteps and visiting with diverse groups
hearing their concerns. People in the 47th have made it crystal clear they want better
government without partisan bickering. Sommerkamp is hearing voters demand well-funded
public schools, constituents say there is still a lot to do in the areas of civil rights and women’s
rights, and the community wants representation that works for all people and all families.
Sommerkamp says “As a ‘recovering’ journalist, I can see a politician misleading the public
from a mile away. If elected, I will ask the hard questions other politicians won't. By getting
facts out, citizens can make up their minds so Illinois and the 47th can move forward."
The primary election is March 20, 2018. The General Election is November 6, 2018.
Sommerkamp has lived in Downers Grove for 20 years and is married to Steve Osterling. They
have two bright and beautiful children attending the University of Southern California.
