Tax Hike For This Clarendon Hills Neighborhood?
The village is eyeing a special taxing district for road improvements.

CLARENDON HILLS, IL – Clarendon Hills is considering road improvement projects for Ann Street and Byrd Court. But it'll come at a cost for the neighborhood.
On Monday, the Village Board is set to discuss creating a special taxing district for the two streets. No action is planned.
Under such a district, the annual property tax would increase by up to $266 a year, according to numbers from a village memo. The tax would last 15 years.

Earlier, Ann and Byrd were the only streets excluded from a long-term road project because residents rejected forming a taxing district, the memo said.
During the process, the village consistently overestimated the tax for legal purposes, according to the memo. The size of the tax increase concerned residents.

This time may be different.
"Village staff has conducted preliminary discussions with several residents of the area, with a consensus that there is interest moving forward," Village Manager Kevin Barr said in the memo.
He said the next step would be to hold a general meeting with residents on Ann and Byrd.
If residents reject a district, the village would do a simple resurfacing of the streets "at some point in the future," Barr said.
