The Lane School Parent Teacher Organization hosted its 2nd Annual Science Olympiad (SO) Fun Night on Thursday, March 6. Nearly 300 participants were in attendance, including students from kindergarten through fifth grade, parents, and staff.
Students were grouped in teams of three or four, and led by parent volunteers, rotated through a series of three 30-minute hands-on experiments. Students learned about the scientific method through fun experiments and activities such as playing nature detectives, studying leaves and seeds, understanding the physics of sports, constructing marshmallow towers, building bridges and making "squishy" circuits using play-dough.

“SO Fun Night is a great non-competitive way to get all kids excited about science,” event organizers noted. “It gives students an opportunity to get up close and personal with a research scientist, a naturalist, a physician or an engineer, many of whom are parents within our community.” Presenters included representatives from Fermilab, Morton Arboretum, Lakeview Nature Center and DuPage Forest Preserve.
