The Lane School PTO Hosts First Science Olympiad Fun Night

The Lane School Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) hosted its first Science Olympiad Fun Night on March 7. Nearly 300 students, parents and staff members participated in this exciting new event. Representatives from Argonne National Laboratory, Morton Arboretum, DuPage Forest Preserve, and Robert Crown Center were on hand to work with The Lane students. Also on hand were representatives from Stryker medical equipment, who provided a Laparoscopic Surgical Unit and other equipment loaned by Fermi Lab.

Principal Casey Godfrey, new to The Lane this year, noted, “SO Fun Night was a great non-competitive way to get all kids excited about science. It gave students an opportunity to get up close and personal with a research scientist, a naturalist, a physician or an engineer, many of whom are parents within our community.” During the event, students learned about the scientific method through fun experiments and activities, such as playing nature detectives, studying leaves and seeds, seeing a tornado chamber, learning to use the Laparoscopic Surgical Unit, constructing marshmallow towers, building marble roller coasters, and making "squishy circuits” using play-dough.
