HINSDALE, IL – The intersection of The Lane and Oak Street in Hinsdale is a bit odd.

A long time ago, stop signs were placed on the north-south Oak, which accounts for 85 percent of the traffic at the intersection, according to a village traffic study.

The Lane has no stop signs at the junction, yet it accounts for just 15 percent of traffic.

"This is an unusual intersection," Hinsdale Trustee Luke Stifflear said at Tuesday's Village Board meeting.

He said the village could find no information on why the stop signs were on Oak.

The village administration recommends making the intersection a four-way stop.

The board is expected to vote on the proposal at a later meeting.

According to the village, two crashes have occurred at the intersection in the last five years.
