To honor and celebrate the 2014 Paralympic Games, Walker Physical Education teachers Melissa Marshall and Dan Kolar designed a multi-day series of activities mirroring the Games’ events. With a clever re-purposing of gym equipment, Marshall and Kolar enabled students to participate in such events as wheelchair curling and ice sledge hockey. Students not only engaged in physical fitness, but also more fully appreciated the athletes’ physical challenges. “Student learn that even if it hurts or it’s hard, you can’t give up,” Marshall said.
