Westmont Man Crashed Into House During Chase: Cops

An officer tried to stop the man because his headlights were not on, police said.

WESTMONT, IL – A Westmont man was arrested Monday for leading a local officer on a chase and then crashing into a house, authorities said.

Ronald Neal, 20, who lives in the 10 block of East 56th Street, was charged with aggravated fleeing, a felony.

Shortly after midnight Aug. 10, an officer saw a Honda Element pull out of a parking lot near 59th Street without its headlights on, according to a news release from DuPage County prosecutors.

The officer tried to stop the driver, identified as Neal. But Neal drove away, running a stop sign and hitting a mailbox and a streetlight, police said.

Neal then crashed into a house at 60th and Williams streets, police said. No one was reported injured in the house.

On Monday, a DuPage County judge released Neal with conditions.

“The alleged actions of this offender not only put innocent homeowners at risk, but also caused thousands of dollars of damage to their residence,” Westmont Police Chief Jim Gunther said in the news release.
