HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale High School District 86 this week released its settlement agreement with a former teacher.

Two weeks ago, the school board unanimously approved the settlement with Brett Malas, who resigned in 2015. He sued the district after his departure.

Under the agreement's terms, Malas is set to get $108,000. The district is expected to mail a $72,000 check to Malas' lawyers at Chicago-based Kulwin, Masciopinto & Kulwin.

The agreement also requires the district to email all employees about its existing Americans With Disabilities Act policy. At the same time, Malas acknowledges that the district admits no violations of civil rights laws.

Malas agreed not to seek a job with District 86. He must refrain from communicating with board members and district employees.

Under the terms, Malas is not allowed on any district property and at off-campus school events. If he violates this rule, police will be called for trespassing, according to the agreement, which Malas signed Feb. 17.
