Attic Fire Damages Building In Lockport: Dept.

There were no civilian injuries but one firefighter did sustain a minor injury to his hand.

LOCKPORT, IL — An attic fire was reported early Monday morning at 1139 E. Ninth St, the fire department said. The building was once occupied by Lockport Animal Hospital but is now only used for their records storage.

When firefighters arrived at 1:50 a.m. they found a well-involved attick fire in the building and quickley went to a defensive operation to extinguish the fire, the department said. Downed power lines in the area made it difficult to access all sides of the building and the fire was elevated to a MABAS Box Alarm. This brought additional apparatus and manpower from East Joliet, Frankfort, Homer, Lemont, Manhattan, NW Homer, Romeoville and Troy fire departments to the scene with several other area departments providing station coverage in the District.

The department said the fire was then brought under control in just over an hour but companies remained on the scene controlling hot spots for a couple hours. There were no civilian injuries but one firefighter did sustain a minor injury to his hand.
