D33C Recognizes Student Athletes, Proposes Tentative Levy: Briefs

HOMER GLEN, IL — The Homer District 33C school board met Oct. 22 and the district recently shared some happenings and information from the meeting. The next meeting for the board will take place Nov. 19. According to the district website, here's some of what happened at the last board meeting:

Golf State Qualifiers

The district said Maeve Heeney shot 101 at sectionals to qualify for state, where she shot a 115 to finish 52nd. Dominic White shot a 99 to finish 60th at state in boys golf.

Boys Baseball State Qualifiers

The Homer boys baseball team advanced to the final eight in the state tournament. The district said the team tied for fifth place in the state.

Hirings

The board approved the following new employees: Sarah Marion, seventh grade social studies; Carol Hess, bus driver; Audrey Prost, paraprofessional at Young; Marcia Duran, lunchroom monitor at Butler; Joyce Hale, lunchroom monitor at Young; and Jacklen Girgis, seventh grade reading teacher.

Tax Levy

At the meeting, Assistant Superintendent for Business Aleksas Kirkus, presented the tentative tax levy to the board. The district said the tentative levy must be presented at least 20 days prior to the adoption of the actual levy which is expected to happen during the Nov. 19 board meeting.

According to the district, in 2018, the district billed taxes for $44,733,683. This year, the district will levy $46,968,194, to "ensure that the district is able to capture the full value of new property across the district."

Board Approvals

Lastly, the board approved a donation of 10 percent of the proceeds from the seventh and eighth grade girls home basketball games during the month of October to be given to the Susan G. Koman Foundation in the name of Homer Junior High School.

New projectors and an updated control system in the Schilling main gym were approved for $24,429.

District-wide security camera wiring and district-wide access control wiring were approved for $65,475.
