Fake Cop Lied To Real Cops: Police

A Lockport man flashed a badge at police and tried to pass himself as an officer, but never was, police said.

BOLINGBROOK, IL -- A Lockport man who allegedly intervened during a domestic dispute attempted to pass himself off as a retired police officer, even flashing his badge to Bolingbrook cops, police said. Bolingbrook officers who were responding to a domestic situation at 9:49 a.m. Monday in the 1600 block of Manhattan Street were approached by Charles Garcia, 57, who was not part of the initial incident but told police he was a police officer and a relative of one of the people involved in a property dispute. Garcia even quickly flashed a badge, police said.

"Garcia once again approached officers on scene and again flashed his badge to officers," Bolingbrook police said Tuesday.

Bolingbrook police contacted the department Garcia had supposedly worked for and were told he had never been a police officer but "was a police commissioner over 20 years ago," Lt. Anthony Columbus told Patch. "Upon closer inspection of the badge it was marked commissioner."
