Garage 'Total Loss' After Fire Early Sunday In Lockport

LOCKPORT, IL — A garage is a total loss and two more garages are damaged after a fire early Sunday in Lockport, according to a release from the Lockport Township Fire Protection District.

Firefighters responded to a reported garage fire on Jefferson Street at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, the fire district said. They arrived to find a "fully involved" fire in a single-car detached garage, with the fire already spreading to a second six-car, detached garage next door.

The fire was quickly brought under control with multiple hose lines by the initial response, the district said. The single car garage was a total loss, and there was extensive damage to the second garage and a third garage, sustaining some radiant heat damage.

The fire was upgraded to a general alarm, which brought manpower and equipment from
Lemont, Northwest Homer, and Plainfield to cover the Lockport stations while companies worked at the fire.

There were no reported injuries and no damage to any of the residences, the fire district said.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Lockport Fire Investigators.
