Gas Leak In Lockport Township Causes Evacuations: Police

A gas leak near 135th Street has caused several residents nearby to evacuate.

HOMER GLEN/LOCKPORT, IL - UPDATE: Neighbors are reporting that they have been let back into their homes.

ORIGINAL STORY: A gas leak near 135th Street and Smith Road has caused several residents to evacuate their homes Friday evening. According to reports, the leak was caused from construction crews doing work in the area.

According to Will County's Department of Transportation, reconstruction is taking place at 135th Street, from New Avenue to Smith Road. The project is slated to be complete in fall 2018.

According to police officials, Lemont Emergency Management Agency has been assisting with traffic during this incident.

Northwest Homer Fire Protection District and Will County Sheriff's Office are at the scene. Patch has reached out to both departments for comment, but has not received a response.
