LOCKPORT, IL — The Lockport community is rallying around a 4-year-old girl after she fell into a pool and became unresponsive last week. If you see pink ribbons around your neighborhood, they are for Gabriella Matlak, who is currently in a coma in critical condition at Lurie Children's Hospital due to the accident.

According to a GoFundMe created for Gabby, she was at a friend's house on June 7 when she fell into a pool. Her father, Tim, and a friend removed her from the pool and started CPR. However, Gabby was not breathing and was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.

When she got to St. Joe's, the decision was made to airlift her to Lurie Children's since she was in critical condition, the GoFundMe said.

So far, $20,665 towards a $50,000 goal has been raised for Gabby. According to the GoFundMe, Gabby's parents aren't working right now as they spend time with her in the ICU. Gabby has two siblings who are being cared for by family.

Gabby remains in a coma and recently had an MRI so doctors could see the extent of her injury. The MRI will give a better understanding of how severe the damage is to her brain and what other measures are needed to help Gabby heal. The family say they should have results back soon.

Gabby's parents, Tim and Paula, said their daughter is in the fight of her life.

"Her body is doing good and responding well with the treatments that the doctors have her on," they said, explaining that Gabby has suffered from seizures over the last few days, but they are now under control with new medication.

"As for the community coming together to support us and rally for Gabby we are speechless," Tim and Paula said. "We didn’t imagine that our little sassy pants would affect so many peoples lives and they have became a part of our family. We absolutely love that people are putting pink up and doing everything to spread the love and most importantly praying for Gab Gab to heal."
