GoFundMe Created For Lockport Man In Serious Car Accident

LOCKPORT, IL — Lockport resident Troy Samanich was driving into work in Lemont on Monday, Feb. 18, when he was in a serious car accident near New Avenue and 127th Street in Lemont. According to GoFundMe, Samanich was pinned under a semi-truck for 90 minutes before he was rushed to the hospital.

A GoFundMe was created to help the family cover medical bills and everyday expenses while Samanich recovers. Samanich was rushed to the ICU and immediately had surgery to put plates in his arm.

Family friend Tina Turrise and organizer of the GoFundMe told Patch that Samanich was scheduled for surgery on Feb. 20 to repair injuries to his arm, elbow and hand but he is too swollen and it needed to be rescheduled. Samanich also has seven broken ribs and a punctured lung, and he is in serious, but stable condition.

Samanich works for the Lemont Public Works Department and grew up in the community. His family, wife Amanda and four children, Anthony, Lauralyn, Aiden and Dani, now live in Lockport.

"[The family is] overwhelmed and thankful for the love and support from so many people," Turrise said. "Donations, prayers, meals, etc., being set up for them. It truly is a testament what a wonderful community we live in."

As of Feb. 20, $7,090 out of a $10,000 goal had been raised on GoFundMe.

Lemont Police said the road was closed for several hours while they rescued Samanich and performed accident reconstruction. The accident was between Samanich's Jeep Wrangler and a semi-truck.
