Future architects and interior designers will want to sign up for this after school enrichment program.
On Oct. 29, Nov. 2 and Nov. 5 sixth-graders at Hadley Middle School will have an opportunity to explore “green” architecture and learn about energy-efficient construction during a Home Design Workshop organized by Homer 33C’s EXPLORERS After School Enrichment Program.
Later, they will have an opportunity to take a field trip to Chicago for a Skyscrapers in Art workshop with the Chicago Architecture Foundation. The field trip, which is only open to students who participate in the EXPLORERS’ Home Design Workshop, will be offered on Veteran’s Day (Nov. 11).

“They will then work in small groups designing a house using alternative energy sources, recycled materials and other eco-friendly technologies,” said Norville. “Their design will be made into a 3-D model to be raffled off to one student in each group.”
The three-day workshop, which is only open to Hadley sixth-graders, will be held from 2:20 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. Oct. 29, Nov. 2 and Nov. 5 at Hadley Middle School.
The cost to participate is $30. The field trip to Chicago is optional and costs an additional $20. Checks should be made payable to Homer School District 33C.
The workshop is limited to 22 students, so don’t delay. Permission slips and payment are due Oct. 7.
