Homer Glen Installs New Traffic Calming Signs

The village said the purpose of these signs is to make drivers aware of their speeds in residential areas.

HOMER GLEN, IL — Over the last few weeks, the Village of Homer Glen has installed traffic calming signage at several locations throughout the community. The signs feature phrases like "Free Speeding Tickets Available Ahead" and "Drive Like Your Children Live Here." The village said the purpose of these signs is to make drivers aware of their speeds in residential areas.

The village’s Traffic Calming Program cites education and signage as two nonaggressive measures to be implemented in an effort to reduce vehicular speeds where necessary. The 3-foot by 3-foot, bright yellow signs are designed to attract attention and alert drivers to monitor their speed.

According to the village, sign location placements were based on complaints and speed data compiled from roadways with speeding issues. The village will continue to collect data to measure the effectiveness of this signage program.
