The Homer Glen Village Board approved adding the advisory question to the ballot in January.

The Village of Homer Glen is currently served by the Will County Sheriff's Office. According to the Village website, the feasibility study would have examined current police services, demand for police services, and plans and projections for future growth.

"The public question is not meant to end contractual services with the Will County Sheriff's Department," the village website noted, and added that the exploration would not end or cut supplemental services from the sheriff's office.

If the referendum had passed, the Village would have put out a bid for consultants who can conduct the study. Since it failed, then nothing will change.

Polls closed at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Election results will remain unofficial until April 25 when the Will County Clerk's Office finishes counting vote by mail ballots and provisional ballots.
