House Fire Causes $40K In Damage: Lockport Fire District
The fire also damaged the gas meter to the home, requiring a dig crew from Nicor to stop the leak, the fire district said.
LOCKPORT, IL — A house fire in Lockport caused severe damage to the home and its gas meter, requiring Nicor crews on scene to stop the leak, the Lockport Township Fire Protection District said. The district responded to a house fire in the 16500 block of Basil Court at 2:11 p.m. Sunday.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire on the outside of the two-story home. They were quickly able to control the fire, and primarily kept the damage to the exterior of the house. However, the gas meter to the home was also damaged by the fire, which required fire crews to stand-by until a dig crew from Nicor was able to stop the leak.
The district said no injuries were reported, and the residents were all able to safely evacuate the house before the fire district's arrival. Damage from the fire is estimated at $40,000.
