Jewelry Stolen From Elderly Residents During Lockport Ruse Burglary: Police

Lockport Police said they are investigating the incident that occurred in the 700 block of Read Street at 4 p.m. Sept. 7.

LOCKPORT, IL — Jewelry was stolen during a ruse burglary that occurred Thursday afternoon in Lockport. Lockport Police said they are investigating the incident that occurred in the 700 block of Read Street at 4 p.m. Sept. 7. Police said the elderly residents reported two different white work trucks pulled up in front of their residence, and one male suspect exited the truck and began to speak to the residents.

The homeowner showed the male suspect, "Mike," a crack in a sidewalk in the backyard of the property. The homeowner and “Mike” agreed on a price for the repair, and “Mike” completed the repair.

According to police, while one homeowner was in the rear of the home with “Mike,” the other homeowner observed another male suspect of average height and build exit a bedroom in the home and go into the backyard where the others were.

Police said later in the evening, the homeowner discovered jewelry items missing from the bedroom where the male suspect exited earlier in the day. The male named “Mike” is described as approximately 6' 0" and 200 pounds. The other male suspect who exited the bedroom is described of average height and weight.

Any person who may have seen these subjects or the vehicle in the area of Seventh Street and Read Street or anyone who has additional information is asked to call Detective Jeff Dopke or Officer Jeren Szmergalski at the Lockport Police Department, (815) 838-2132.

Lockport Police reminds residents to be vigilant of their surroundings and to secure their homes, whenever possible. In addition, if someone comes to your door that you do not recognize or find to be suspicious, do not hesitate to call the police department to have them checked out.
