Homer Glen Residents Say Yes to Mayoral Term Limit

Unofficial results, voters want mayor limited to two terms.

Homer Glen residents voted Tuesday in favor of setting a two-term limit for its mayor.

With all precincts in, 5,560 voted in favor of term limits; 700 against. With the limits in place, no one person elected to the role can serve more than two full, four-year terms.

Homer Township voters weighed in 8,131 to 1,234 in favor of a non-binding advisory measure to put any property tax hike up for voter approval. The referendum was sponsored by Steve Balich.

Northwest Homer Fire Protection District

The votes were too close to call for a 9-cent increase in Northwest Homer Fire Protection District fire service fees, with 1,950 in favor and 1,902 against. The increase would reflect about $30 a year for a $100,000 home for the next four years. Absentee votes have yet to be counted.

White Oak Library District

White Oak Library District patrons voted against a tax rate increase, with unofficial totals coming in at 4,717 in favor, 9,032 against. The district pitched the increase to bring in an additional $500,000 each year for the district to increase library hours, ESL services and add a digital media lab.

Taft School District 90

In Lockport, voters rejected a tax rate increase for Taft School District 90 for the years 2015–2018, with unofficial totals 394 in favor, 463 against.
