Kim Foxx Pummels Anita Alvarez; Hillary Clinton's 11th-Hour Win; Donald Trump Triumphs
Anita Alvarez lost city and suburbs; Clinton retained slim lead over Sanders. Trump victorious. Tammy Duckworth vs. Mark Kirk this fall.

Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez, embattled over questions about her handling of police violence cases, lost her primary in a landslide to Kim Foxx, a former assistant state's attorney.
While the surge of anti-Alvarez sentiment cost her the state's attorney's office, incumbency helped Cook County Circuit Clerk Dorothy Brown. She easily cruised to victory even without her party's endorsement or support and with federal scrutiny of her office.
Tammy Duckworth and Mark Kirk won their respective U.S. Senate primaries. Their matchup in the fall should prove to be a classic and hard-fought matchup and could be one of the most expensive in the United States.
Voter turnout in Chicago was over 50 percent, according to the Chicago Election Board, and 26,000 new voters registered to vote on Primary Day.
The surge in voter participation most likely could be attributed to the effort to oust Alvarez. This had implications for Clinton in the city, too. Many of those who registered late also were young voters and possibly favored Bernie Sanders. Sanders spent a lot of time campaigning in Chicago in recent days and drew big crowds.
In the 10th Congressional District Democratic primary, former U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider, D-Deerfield, wins the nomination and a chance to take on incumbent Bob Dold yet again after defeating Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering.
In the 1st Congressional District, Bobby Rush fended off a primary challenge from fellow Democrat and Chicago Ald. Howard Brookins Jr. With a solidly Democratic district, Rush is assured re-election to Congress.
