Lockport Authorizes Funding For IL 171, New Avenue Project

The city would utilize 80-20 Surface Transportation Program grant funding for the project.

LOCKPORT, IL — At its Wednesday meeting, the Lockport City Council authorized its portion of funding for the IL 171 and New Avenue intersection improvement project.

According to council documents, the city started on a phase 1 engineering contract for the intersection in February 2021, and the concept of a traffic signal or a traffic merge lane was developed.

The current design for the project includes the signal, but the signal won't be installed until IDOT gives approval, according to council documents. However, a merge "slip lane" could be installed.
